About Uros, Taquile & Amantani

This two-day cultural experience on Lake Titicaca includes visits to three distinctive islands, each representing a unique way of life. The journey begins at the Uros Floating Islands, an artificial archipelago built entirely from totora reeds and inhabited by the ancestral Uros people. It continues to Taquile Island, a traditional Quechua community renowned for its exceptional textile art and strong cultural identity. The experience concludes on Amantani Island, a peaceful rural island where travelers spend the night with a local family, gaining firsthand insight into Andean traditions, daily life, and community-based hospitality.


Itinerary

Day 01: Uros Floating Islands & Amantani Island Tour

Overnight stay with a local family

  • 8:00 AM – Hotel pick-up from your accommodation in Puno, followed by transfer to the city’s main port.
  • Boarding of a modern motorboat and departure towards the Uros Floating Islands, with an approximate navigation time of 30 minutes.
  • Arrival at the islands and interaction with the Uros people, who share their ancestral traditions, lifestyle, and cultural heritage.
  • Optional activity: Short ride on a traditional totora reed boat, gliding across the clear waters of Lake Titicaca.
  • Departure from the Uros Islands and continuation of the journey to Amantani Island, with an approximate travel time of 2 hours by boat.
  • Upon arrival at Amantani, travelers are welcomed by Quechua families who host them in their homes and prepare a traditional local lunch.
  • In the afternoon, guided walk around the island to visit the Pachatata or Pachamama Temples, ancient pre-Inca ceremonial sites, while observing the daily life of the local community.
  • In the evening, after dinner, guests participate in a traditional cultural gathering organized by the local residents. Overnight stay with a host family.

Day 02: Taquile Island Tour & Return to Puno

  • After breakfast, at 7:00 AM, departure by motorboat towards Taquile Island, with an approximate navigation time of 1 hour.
  • Upon arrival, guided walk along ancient stone paths ascending to the village, where visitors meet the local inhabitants, known for their remarkable textile craftsmanship and strong cultural identity. From the village, enjoy spectacular panoramic views over Lake Titicaca.
  • At midday, a traditional lunch is served at a local family-owned restaurant.
  • 1:00 PM – Transfer to the island’s port to board the motorboat for the return journey.
  • 3:20 PM – Arrival at Puno’s main port, followed by transfer to the city center.
